Incision Sites
There
are 3 common incision sites: around the nipple (periareolar),
within the breast fold (inframammary), or under the
arm (axillary).
Periareolar-This incision is the most concealed, but
is associated with a higher likelihood of inability to successfully
breast feed and nipples diminish sensitivity, as compared
to the other incision sites.
Inframammary-This incision
is a little less concealed than periareolar and associated
with less difficulty than the periareolar incision site
when breast-feeding and less nipple-areola sensitivity problems.
Axillary-This
incision is more visible than the others and associated
with less difficulty than the periareolar incision site
when breast-feeding. But achieving symmetry is more difficult
with this technique.
Umbilical / endoscopic-This incision site has not been
well studied and is not recommended by the manufactures.
We
perform more augmentations through inframammary incisions
than any other incision approach. The inframammary approach,
in Dr. Pino's opinion, unquestionably provides the most control
in the widest range of breast types with the fewest trade-offs
and the fastest more predictable recovery compared with other
approaches.
Actually,
scar location is one of the things patients are most concerned
about before their surgery, and least concerned about after
their surgery. If a woman has a beautiful breast, no one pays
attention to a stretch mark, or a small blemish, or a scar.
If the quality of a scar is good, it's no more apparent than
a stretch mark
