The
Breast
The
breast consists of milk ducts and glands, surrounded by fatty
tissue that provides its shape and feel. Situated beneath
the breast is the pectoral major muscle or chest muscle.
Breast
implants can be placed beneath the muscle (submuscular)
or above the muscle, beneath the mammary gland (subglandular)
Factors
such as pregnancy, rapid weight loss, and the effects of gravity
as you age, combine to stretch the skin, which may cause the
breast to droop or sag. A breast augmentation may help to
lift mild or moderate breast sagginess. When severe sagging
is the case, a Mastopexy
or breast lift is necessary,
combined with the augmentation.
Some
women have breast asymmetry in size or shape from right
to left. Placing different sizes and or shapes implants may
help to achieve a better symmetry.
Who
Is a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?
- Women
who are dissatisfied with the size of their breasts and
wish to be larger.
-
Women whose breasts have shrunk because of pregnancy or
weight loss.
-
Women who have mild to moderate breast sagging: breast augmentation
provides additional needed fullness.
-
Correction of Breast Asymmetry: women who have one breast
smaller than the other may have a breast augmentation of
the smaller breast.
-
If you already had a breast augmentation and are not satisfied,
the results can usually be significantly improved.
